Visualization of juncture flow of a surface-mounted cylinder with convex and concave fairings at low Reynolds numbers

Juncture flow of a wall mounted cylinder of aspect ratio 3 was investigated with convex and concave fairings using a variety of flow visualization techniques in the water tunnel. The range of Reynolds number tested was from 2,500 to 12,700. It was observed that fairings considerably influenced the flow characteristics as compared to the straight cylinder, such as the location of primary singular point, lateral divergence of a streamlines and vorticity dynamics. Singular point moved towards the attachment line when primary lateral divergence of limiting streamlines was more pronounced for concave fairing compared to convex.
