Abstract
The ability to spatially control the local biochemical environment of a cell culture enables different members of a homogeneous cell population to develop in a divergent fashion while remaining in communication with their neighbors. This capability could ultimately have applications in bottom-up tissue engineering and morphogenetic studies. We are developing this capability using biocompatible techniques to transfer spatially designed graphene-based materials to cell cultures. We use partially reduced graphene oxide as a platform to deposit spatially patterned materials such as inkjet-printed metallic designs or molecules with biochemical activity.
