摘要
The automobiles, aerospace, and structural industries are currently focusing on using bio-fiber-based polymer composites to replace conventional materials, which are non-biodegradable. This chapter discusses and aims toward highlighting the static mechanical behavior of bio-fiber-based polymer composites. The superior properties of these composites include light weight, high specific strength, low cost, and good mechanical properties. Owing to the eco-friendly, non-abrasive, and bio-degradable characteristics of bio-fibers, engineers, professionals, scientists, and researchers are finding interest in them as alternative reinforcements. The use of bio-fibers such as sisal, bamboo, abaca, flax, jute, and kenaf hemp etc. have been briefly considered. This chapter is intended to develop the area of interest by providing comprehensive information on the static mechanical properties of bio-fiber reinforced polymer-based composites. Static mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural, impact and hardness have been discussed in light of the available literature. Moreover, efforts have also been made to asses recent investigation and future scope to make it a reassuring material for bio-based products.
