The role of sensitization in post-transplant outcomes in adults with congenital heart disease sensitization in adults with congenital heart disease

•Adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) who undergo heart transplant have higher PRA levels compared to adults without CHD.•Afer adjusting for PRA level, CHD diagnosis is an independent risk factor for mortality or graft failure within 1 year of transplantation.•This suggests it is not the PRA level alone that confers the elevated risk in CHD patients.•For patients with a PRA >10%, outcomes were similar in those with and without CHD.•Elevated PRA levels remain an important issue in selection of transplant recipients, however a level >10% is equally significant in a CHD and non-CHD patient.
