Abstract
Dual-beam antennas have unique prospects in the field of the modern wireless communication system because of their directional and multi-domain coverage characteristics as well as improved link quality with fewer antennas. In this work, a compact switched dual-beam array antenna operating at 5.8 GHz is designed, an $8\times 1$ antenna array is fed by a new dual-beam beamforming network to obtain high gains. One broadside beam and three two-lobed beams are achieved by exciting four different input ports. The main beam separately points to 0°, ±11°, ±18° and ±26° and the beam gain is 13.1 dBi, 10.5 dBi, 9.8 dBi and 9.7 dBi, respectively. The proposed antenna array can achieve continuous beam scanning for total 3-dB beam coverage within azimuthal angle of ±35°.
