#SMFM: More than just a hashtag

Twitter has emerged as a popular social media platform for sharing research content and commentary from clinical and scientific meetings. The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) Annual Meeting uses the hashtag “#SMFM (year)” to engage members, trainees, and the public. We sought to gauge the role of Twitter in academic discourse around the Annual Meeting by evaluating changes in the number of meeting-related Tweets and impressions garnered by the SMFM Twitter account over the past 5 years.
