Clinical observation on intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide for treating significant macular edema

Objective To check the influence of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide on clinically significant macular edema.MethodThis prospective study involvd 12 cases. The main outcome measures included best- cor- rected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, fundus fluoresce in angiography (FFA) and macular oedema map values of Heidelberg Retinal Tomograph II (HRT II) before and after intravitreal triamcinolone injection.ResultThe com- plaints of the best- corrected visual acuity and HRT II turned better at 7, 30, 120 days after operation than preoper- ation, with significant difference (P0.01); The intraocular pressure turned higher at 30, 120 days after operation than preoperation, with significant difference (P0.05), and with no significant difference at 7 days (P0.05); FFA displayed the degree of macular edema lessened and leakage reduced.ConclusionThe operation of intravitreal Triamcinolone Acetonide can induce macular edema.
