Assessment of rock mass quality based on rock quality designation and rock block index——Taking the Borehole BS01 in Beishan HLW disposal repositary as example

Rock mass quality assessment plays an important role in the security for all kinds of large-scale buildings,especially for the underground buildings.In this paper,based on two parameters of RQD and RBI,taking the Borehole BS01 as example,lots of measured data prove that the rock block index can reflect the integrity and corresponding variation of mechanical properties of core from Borehole BS01 to some extent.Meanwhile,the rock mass classification around the Borehole BS01 is given in this paper.Finally,comparison of the results for rock mass assessment between RBI and RQD is made.The research result shows that the rock block index has remarkable significance in engineering and advantages in rock mass quality assessment.
