Treatment of Distal Tibial Fractures with Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Plate Osteosynthesis

Objective To study the clinical results of minimlly invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis(MIPPO) for distal tibial fracture.Methods Fourteen cases of distal tibial fractures were treated with MIPPO.Accrding to AO classification three were open fractures.Without any external fixtation.active and passive motion of ankle joint was allowed two days after operation without weight-bearing.Results All the patients were followed up for 6 to 24 months,10 on average.There were no cases of infection and 1 case of delayed union was observed.Of other cases the mean time of bone union was 16 weeks.According to Mazur joint function scoring,the excellent and good rate was 93%.Conclusion MIPPO is a safe and effective technique in the treatment of distal tibial fracture.
