Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of the pedicle the temporalis myofacial flap in modified mastoidectomy.Method 46 patients with cholesteatoma otitis media were surgically treated by modified mastoidectomy through retroauricular approach,in which the pedicle the temporalis myofacial flap(middle superficial temporal artery) were used to deal with mastoid cavity. All cases were followed up for 1~2 years. Results 46 patients obtained dry ear and mastoid epithelization in 3~4 weeks. There were no recurrence, infection, and epithelium accumulation. Conclusion The pedicle temporalis myofacial flap can reduce infection, promote mastoid epithelization, and shorten the duration for dry ear. This type of tissue flap is easy to prepare and suitable to apply in primary hospitals.
