The effect of fixed fiber-reinforced composite splint with orthodontic treatment on periodontitis

Objective:To evaluated the clinical effects of fixed fiber-reinforced composite periodontal splint with the orthodontic treatment on Periodontitis. Method:14 adult patients with secondary malocclusion because of periodontitis disease were treated using fixed appliance after basics periodontal therapy and inflammation control,then fiber-reinforced composite periodontal splint was used. Result: After 1～3 years' clinical observation,the periodontal state in these patients was significantly improved and the secondary malocclusion was corrected. Not only were oral function and facial features of these patients improved, but also the involved teeth were retained. Conclusion:The orthodontic treatment is important for the comprehensive therapy of periodontal. The fiber-reinforced composite periodontal splint is effective in saving loosen teeth.
