摘要
The study explores the specific characteristics of communities'  attempts to combat contemporary urban poverty in the United States,  beginning with their structural and national nature. To this end, it  highlights the growing importance of the role played by community  organizations in the search for alternative solutions that will, in turn,  influence the definition of public policies that will enhance social justice. Bearing in mind the fact that the current globalizing trend points to  higher levels of unfair distribution, the text highlights the potential  acquired by US civil society for generating new strategies that will help  reduce socio-economic problems, from an environment in which  democratic participation is encouraged.
