Observation on the effects of canesten vaginal tablet combined with live lactobacillus capsule on recurrent vulvovaginal candidasis.

Objective To observe effects of canesten vaginal tablet combined with live lactobacillus capsulre on recurrent vulvovaginal candidasis. Methods There 97 patients with vulvovaginal candidasis were equally and randomly divided into treatment group treated with canesten vaginal tablet (500 mg/3 days) plus live lactobacillus capsule (0.25g/day) and control group treated with canesten vaginal tablet (500 mg/3 days) alone. Results Treated with Canesten vaginal tablet alone reduced the symptomatic score significantly, but the cure rate was only 54.2% with a high recurrence rate at 30.1%. When treated with Canesten vaginal tablet plus living preparation of lactobacillus, the symptomatic score was declined to a much lower level, and the cure rate achieved 85.7%, recurrence rate was only 4.8%. Conclusion The combination of Canesten vaginal tablet with living preparation of lactobacillus could significantly improve the cure rate, and furthermore, the recurrence rate was reduced significantly, therefore it an effective way to cure recurrent vulvovaginal candidasis.
