Inhibition of curcumin on the proliferation in HeLa cell lines through Notch signaling pathway

Objective:To investigate the regulatory effect of curcumin on the proliferation of human cervical carcinoma cell line HeLa in vitro and its mechanisms.Methods:The antiproliferative effects of curcumin against HeLa cell lines was determined by the MTT dye uptake method.The expression of Notch1,Notch2,Jagged1,Bcl-2,Bax mRNA were evaluated by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)analysis.Results:Curcumin inhibited the growth of HeLa cells on a time-and dose-depending manner.Curcumin downregulated the constitutive expression of Notch1,Notch2,Jagged1,Bcl-2 genes,but upregulated the expression of Bax and the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax decreased,there was no significance in the expression of Jagged1 mRNA.Conclusion:Curcumin can inhibited the proliferation of HeLa cell lines through regulating expression of apoptotic protein related with Notch signaling pathway.
