Pathogenic bacteria and drug resistance in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia in intensive care unit.

OBJECTIVE To investigate pathogenic bacteria and drug resistance in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia(VAP)in our intensive care unit(ICU).METHODS A retrospective investigation was used to analyze the 74 VAP patients in ICU.RESULTS The main pathogenic bacteria of VAP were Gram-negative bacilli(83.1%),the second were Gram-positive bacteria(10.7%),the third were fungi(6.2%).Most Gram-negative bacilli showed sensitive to carbopenems.Staphylococcus aureus was 100% sensitive to vancomycin and teicoplanin.Candida albicans was 100% sensitive to fluconazole and itraconazole.CONCLUSIONS Gram-negative bacilli are the main pathogenic bacteria of VAP,and show highly resistant.The selection and use of anti-bacterial agents should be based on drug sensitivity.
