Abstract
Practical Small Animal MRI is a timely addition to the ever-expanding literature on veterinary imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging is considered the “gold-standard” in soft tissue imaging and this text is an excellent compilation of MRI images and anatomic illustrations. This book not only covers the common neurological applications of MRI but also provides a good reference for musculoskeletal, thoracic, and abdominal MRI imaging. The inclusion of images and discussion of normal anatomy in each section are invaluable. The first chapter provides a ready reference of technical details, including basic physics, MRI sequences, and artifacts in an easy to comprehend style. Future editions could be improved by providing references or suggested reading lists for chapter 1 and numerical references within the text. In a few instances, pathophysiology is discussed but details of the imaging findings are lacking (e.g., discussion of reversible MRI changes associated with seizures). Practical Small Animal MRI will serve as a valuable reference for veterinarians involved with MRI imaging, such as veterinary radiologists, neurologists, residents, and interns.
