Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty in treatment of senile old lumbar vertebral compression fractures. METHODS 35 cases of senile old lumbar compression fracture treated with percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty treatment. Contrast analysis was conducted before and after operation to investigate clinical manifestations in patients, including evaluation on pain using visual analog pain score (VAS), vertebral height restoration by X ray measurement. RESULTS The preoperative VAS score of patients (8.56±0.73), postoperative VAS score (2.57±0.48), postoperative pain of the patients were improved significantly, VAS before and after operation were significantly different, with statistical significance ( P ﹤ 0.05); patients with preoperative anterior height (19.45±0.71) mm, intermediate height (21.76±0.51) mm, posteriorhight (27.33±0.27) mm; postoperative anterior wall height (26.38±0.43) mm, intermediate altitude (27.35±0.32) mm, posterior wall height (27.42±0.23) mm; after operation, patients’ anterior wall height and intermediate height restored significantly (P﹤0.01); posterior wall height was recovered somewhat, but with no significant differences in preoperation and postoperation (P﹥0.05). CONCLUSION Percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty in treatment of senile old compression fracture of lumbar vertebra has shorted operation time, less trauma, good analgesic effect, and is safe and effective, worthy of promotion.
