Investigation on the detection and treatment of tuberculosis patients in rural area,Xianning City

Objective To understand the detection and treatment of tuberculosis patients in the rural area,Xianning,and provide scientific basis for making prevention policy.Methods 583 tuberculosis patients from four counties in rural area,Xianning city were selected according to the stratified random sampling method.The basic condition of the patients and their treatment were investigated.Results The initial symptoms were cough,sputum,lassitude etc.The average period from the initial symptom to the first consultation was 8.4 days.The first diagnosed institutions were mainly county hospitals,township hospitals,accounting for 73.8%.Most patients were diagnosed in non-professional tuberculosis institutions,the average diagnosis time was 12.8 days.Only 26.8% of the tuberculosis patients received regular treatment.The main reasons for discontinued or intermitted treatment were economic problem and symptoms being somewhat improved.Conclusions To ensure the timely diagnosis and regular treatment,it is of urgent need to improve health education and the transfer of tuberculosis patients when needed.
