Survey of the newly diagnosed maliganant tumor cases among veterans in Chengdu area from 2006 to 2009

Objective To evaluate the incidence and characteristics of malignant tumor among the retired veterans over 65 years old in Chengdu area from 2006 to 2009,and to improve the awareness of prevention of malignant diseases in elderly veterans.Methods Medical data of annual health examination and hospitalized patients in this hospital from 2006 to 2009 were retrospectively analyzed,and the survival data of veterans with newly diagnosed malignant tumors were collected,and the main spectrum and survival rate were analyzed.Results During 2006 to 2009,113 cases of malignant tumors in velerans were retrieved.The average annual incidence rate of malignant tumor was 0.9%,and the main spectrum was lung cancer,colon cancer,gastric cancer,liver cancer and prostate cancer.The 1,2,3,4 years survival rates were 70.4%,52.6%,35.4%,and 23.2% respectively.Conclusions Malignant tumor is one of the major serious hazards in the elderly,so retired veterans should not miss the annual medical examinations,in order to reduce the attack rate of malignant neoplasm.
