Abstract
This work is the result of a partnership between the University of Brasilia and Vale SA for measuring and analyzing the physical properties of iron ore and host rocks belonging to the target N4WS, in the Serra Norte block, Carajas Mineral Province. The acquisition of physical properties is to evaluate the potential of the method for differentiation of ore and their respective host rocks. The physical parameters of magnetic susceptibility and gamma ray emissions from the radioelements K, eU and eTh were analyzed. The sampled data show that it is possible to differentiate clearly between the ore and the mafic rocks of the region. Magnetic susceptibility was efficient in the separation of the ore and the protore, jaspilite considering its respective mineralogical compositions: hematite and magnetite. The individualization of rock types as well allowed an unsupervised classification to the data, which shows the validity of the methods used in daily use of the exploitation of iron ore. Introducao
