A survey in elder patients with periodontitis and tooth loss in Nanjing

Objective:To study the oral status baseline of elder patients with periodontitis and tooth loss in Nanjing.Methods: The patients with missing teeth caused by periodontitis and aged ≥35 years were enrolled in a questionnaire survey.Results: 424 patients,218 males and 206 females,were investigated.The missing teeth was 2 635,including 616 anterior and 2 019 posterior teeth.The average number of missing teeth was 6.21 per patient.The number of missing teeth was related with age,education,income,occupation,oral hygiene habit,smoking,systemic diseases,pressure,family history and other factors of the indivaduals.Conclusion: In elder patients with periodontitis tooth loss is common in Nanjing.Prevention efforts should be strengthened.
