Abstract
Social sciences treat information society as a society where production, trade, uses and archiving of information is basic industry. In this paper this term is being considered in the context of wider social-economic and culturological paradigm, formed under strong influence of information and communication technologies. The author's postulate is that the revolution of information and communication led to fundamental changes in all spheres of social life. The nature of work is altered and tertiary sector experiences intensive development (services, education, and information). Traditional sectioning into private and public, political and civil is disappearing. Economy, culture and politics intertwine progressively influencing each other, in the way that processing and transfer of information become fundamental sources of productivity and power, even cultural power.
