Abstract
To assess the relationship between advance maternal age and pregnancy complications. In 2012–2013, Ankara Baskent University Hospital were screened from the birth registry and patient records. According to maternal age, cases were divided into two groups that are ≥35 years old (advanced maternal age – AMA) and <35 years old (control). Demographic details and pregnancy related complications were analysed between two groups. Mann–Whitney U and chi-square tests were used for statistical analysis; P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. In 2012 and 2013, total 1,532 births that occurred in Ankara Baskent University Hospital. Of those,103 were twin pregnancies. There were 372 patients with AMA (24.3%). Gravida and parity were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in group with AMA. Multiple pregnancy, IVF pregnancies, preterm birth, SGA, macrosomia, hypertension rates showed no significant difference (p > 0.05). In the group with AMA, gestational DM and Caesarean section rate were significantly higher than in the control group (p < 0.05). The rate of unmonitored pregnancies was significantly higher in control group (p < 0.05). Advanced maternal age should be considered as a predictive valuable parameter for the most of pregnancy related complications. These group of pregnancies should be followed more attentively.
