Protamine – pectin (PP) microcapsules (PP4, PP8) containing silver nanoparticles and encapsulated imatinib methanesulfonate were formed using the layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly method. The efficiency of imatinib encapsulation in PP LbL-microcapsules was 85.0 ± 6.0%. Microcapsules containing up to 50 wt.% of imatinib and showing prolonged drug release profile were obtained. Cytotoxicity assays on model cancer cell cultures (Molt-4, К-562, KG-1) showed that the imatinib-containing microcapsules exhibited cytostatic activity (IC 50 reduction within 1.2 – 3.5 times) compared to the free drug.
