Abstract
The influence of a new derivative of glutamic acid (neiroglutam) with antidepressant activity on the spermatogenesis and fertilizing function was studied in experiments on male rats. Neiroglutam was administered to male rats intragastrically for 2 months at doses of 26 mg/kg (experimentally proved therapeutic dose) and 650 mg/kg (conditionally toxic level, exceeding the therapeutic dose by a factor of 25). It was established that neiroglutam did not produce negative action on the process of spermatogenesis and fertilizing properties of spermatozoa. At the same time, there were noticeable manifestations of the dose-dependent reduction in proceptive sexual behavior of male rats (increased latent period of the first motivated approach to intact female, reduced number of such approaches, and decreased duration of sexual activity) and in their receptive sexual motivation (decreased number of female coverings with/without intramissions). However, the pregnancy index and fertility of intact female rats did not change after coupling with males receiving neiroglutam.
