摘要
INTRODUCTION: Since the advent of osseointegration described by Branemark in the 1960s, many new techniques have been proposed within the rigid fixation of bone fractures.OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether a new technique for inserting reverse transverse pins could increase the stability of type II external skeletal fixators (ESF) in dogs compared to an alternative ESF on the same side.METHODOLOGY: The reverse cross pin technique and the type II ESF of the same lateral cross pin technique were applied and compared between animals.RESULTS: Two of the 42 ESFs (4.8%) applied with the reverse transverse pin technique and 39 of the 47 ESFs (83%) applied with the same lateral transverse pin technique were subjectively unstable at the time of fixation removal (P <0.001). The same lateral transverse pin ESF had significantly more new bone formation tract pin than the reverse transverse pin (P = 0.038).CONCLUSIONS: This approach can provide a method of treating a variety of musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions, in which transverse transverse pin ESFs are tolerated in dogs for a variety of conditions.
