A Bioeconomy for the next decade

Abstract Since the launch of the Knowledge-Based Bioeconomy by the European Commission in 2005 bioeconomy has developed from a research-oriented strategy towards a political model in more than 60 countries. This is based on the advantages of biological resources over fossil ones and on its positive impact on climate change, biodiversity and innovation. This article discusses ideas and measures of how to respond to these challenges and recommends emphasizing on the bioeconomy as a societal value-economy, enabling the achievement of SDG and Circular Economy. It is recommended that bioeconomy acts, operates and makes business in chains and cycles, using a systemic approach. The next decade following the Covid-19 pandemic, will demand the contributions from bioeconomy more than ever.
