Abstract
•Heat capacities of Co3(BTC)2·12H2O and Ni3(BTC)2·12H2O have been determined.•Their molecular structure and magnetic properties have been characterized.•Heat capacity data have been fitted to various theoretical and empirical models.•The Schottky effect has been observed for both compounds below 10 K.•The corresponding thermodynamic functions are calculated from (0–300) K.
