EM Perturbation of the Single Point PEC Scatterer in Multilayer Structure for GPR

In this article, we describe the use of the perturbation approach to determine the characteristics of the discontinuity in a two-layer model at sufficiently low frequencies of the radar system. Such a study may be relevant for modern ground-penetrating radar systems, horizontal logging-while drilling radar systems and subsurface radar. The derivation and analysis of the main expressions are given. The results are partially verified by a computational experiment. The work considers only electrically small formations corresponding to Rayleigh particles in lossy medium with boundary. This work is devoted to this problem and offers a theoretical investigation only as well as a numerical modelling. The aim is to determine the perturbed electric field at a certain distance from the obstacle, but not in the vicinity of it, as well as not at the boundary of the layer. The paper describes the complications of numerical modeling of the system under consideration and compares the obtained analytical and computational results.
