Abstract
Amitraz is a chemical which is widely used as an insecticide in pest control. Toxicity of amitraz is seen due to its agonistic action on central and peripheral alpha receptors. Amitraz poisoning mimics organophosphate poisoning. We present a case of nine year old boy who ingested six ml of amitraz accidentally and slept. He was found having nausea, dizziness followed by vomiting. He was rushed to the hospital within 2 hrs of ingestion were gastric lavage was done and child was referred to emergency department at Pgims rohtak. He was managed supportively and symptomatically in emergency department for bradycardia and miosis. There is no specific antidote for amitraz poisoning. The mangement is supportive and symptomatic.
