Abstract
Background: Pain in the lumbar and/or cervical regions are among the major pain complaints in teachers. Objective: To evaluate the association between postural disorders and presence of low backor/and cervical back pain in teachers at a state school in Guaiba/RS. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study, which a sample made up of 24 teachers, of both sex, who presented or not pain in the spine. For data collection, a postural assessment was carried out and a questionnaire was applied with questions regarding age, length of service, BMI, workload and pain intensity. For data analysis, the association of postural findings and the location of pain was obtained using the chi-square test (p <0.05). Results: The mean age was 45 ± 8.85 years, with the majority being female (62.5%). The most prevalent pain was in the cervical spine (33.3%), followed by low back pain (29.2%) and pain in both regions (20.8%). It was observed that of the 16 evaluated points, there was an association between scapular misalignment and pain in the cervical and lumbar regions and between anteriorization of the head and cervical pain. Conclusion: The high prevalence of spinal pain among participants reveals how much teachers are exposed to postural risks, which favors the onset of pain.
