摘要

•Estimation of heavy metal pollution of surface water in the state of Meghalaya, India.•Analysis of heavy metals-Cd, Cu, Cr and Zn in surface water.•Monsoon water samples showed higher levels of heavy metals compared to pre-monsoon and post-monsoon water samples.•The values of indices like HPI and Cdeg indicated that most sampling sites were highly polluted.•PCA showed anthropogenically induced pollution.
