Abstract
The study was conducted to compare the standard and modified surgical techniques for amputation of horn in 13 Mehsana buffaloes suffering from affections of the horn, which warranted horn amputation. The animals were randomly divided in two groups; in group 1 (n=6), standard method of horn amputation, and in group 2 (n=7) modified method of horn amputation was adopted. The study revealed that in modified method of horn amputation, raising the upper flap was easier, which facilitated deep chiseling and thereby avoided repeated chiseling for flap approximation. The total time required for surgical procedure and blood loss were also significantly lesser in modified method than standard method.
