Repair or strengthening of building may be required due to the change of the design codes, adding new floors to the building, changing the purpose of the building etc. There are many methods to retrofit buildings. One of them is to strengthen using steel braces. In this strengthening method one of the important questions that should be answered at the initial stage is what kind of steel brace is to be used and how the steel braces are to be arranged. In this study first, the performance analysis of a three-span (all spans are 4.5m), nine-storey (story height is 3m on each floor) reinforced concrete frame building analysis was performed. As a result of the performance analysis, it was determined that the structure needed to be strengthened. Using centric X braces 5 different reinforcing models were created. In this way, the effect of steel braces on the seismic behavior of the building was determined. In the comparison of the models, the results of the performance evaluation, with the Nonlinear Static Pushover Analysis, were used. As a result of the comparison, the optimum results were obtained from the model where central steel braces were used in each story from the first floor without vertical discontinuity.
