•The ambient temperature damping can be obtained in Ni-Fe-Ga strain glass alloys.•The maximum damping value is achieved in Ni-Fe-Ga alloys within the phase boundary.•The boundaries of martensitic nano-domains are very mobile in the phase boundary.
