Design of an L-Shaped Dual Band Patch Antenna for 5G Applications

It’s the era of 5G now, and in order to meet the needs for 5G communication, research on 5G technology is of utmost importance. The proposed antenna is a dual band antenna which is suitable for 5G application. It comprises of a rectangular ground of copper, a rectangular substrate of air, a copper patch of rectangular shape and an inset feed. The overall size of the MPA is 6.34 × 7.6 × 0.5 mm3 including the patch with dimensions of 3.17 × 3.8 mm2 and an L-shaped slot of 2.75 × 2.35 mm2 dimensions. 28 GHz and 39 GHz are the frequency hands at which it operates. 5.665 dB and 9.428 dB are the the realized gain values obtained at 28 GHz and 39 GHz, respectively. The S 11 values obtained are -13.697 dB and -36.431 dB at 28 GHz and 39 GHz, respectively. Computer Simulation Technology Microwave Studio (CST MWS) simulator has been used to simulate the antenna.
