Abstract
This article reports the experience throughout the development of the extension project “The Microbial World in the School Environment” which has a pedagogical reference based on the use of active methodologies in the teaching of microbiology. Throughout 2018-2019, actions on the importance of microorganisms in human daily life were developed in public schools in Arapiraca – AL. We highlight the importance of microorganisms, the diseases caused by them, hand and food hygiene, vaccination, among others. It was observed that the tools used were important on the knowledge acquisition, as well as creating a rapprochement between the university and the community, which made it possible to expand the view of academics about the importance of extension actions for their academic education, contributing to the understanding of the community demands and skills development in microbiology and communication.
