Although efforts to manage hypertension with pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, including traditional health care approaches, have been conducted, the prevalence of hypertension and death due to hypertension is still high. Objective : This research aimed to identify hypertension self-care and utilization of traditional health services in hypertensive patients in Denpasar. Methods : This research was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents were 100 patients who were recruited using consecutive sampling at 4 health centers in Denpasar. A validated questionnaire on self-management on diet, physical activity, stress management, alcohol consumption, smoking, medication adherence, and utilization of traditional health services were used to collect data. Data were analysed for univariate statistics using SPSS version 20.0. Results : The results showed that the average age of the respondents was 55 years (range 17-80 years), and 50.4% were women. In hypertension self-care, most respondents indicated adequate self-care in 5 domains (72% for diet self-care, 74% for stress self-care, 97% limiting alcohol consumption, 95% avoiding smoking, and 89% adhering to drug consumption). However, 63% of respondents indicated poor self-care in physical activity. In addition, only 25% of respondents used traditional health services to manage their hypertension. Conclusion : Although hypertension self-care is considered adequate, the management of physical activity and the utilization of traditional health services should be improved. It is suggested that health practitioners should promote physical activity and the utilization of traditional health services to manage hypertension.
