Study on numerical simulation of asphalt mixtures and asphalt pavement based on finite element software: A Review

The performance of asphalt pavement, as an important part of the expressway, has an important impact on the safety, durability, service comfort, and of the expressway. With the development of computer technology, the numerical simulation of asphalt mixture and asphalt pavement has been paid more and more attention. The objective of this paper is to present a review on the constitutive models of asphalt and asphalt mixture and numerical simulation of asphalt mixtures and asphalt pavement based on finite element software. In view of the existing problems in this research field, it is proposed that the simulation model of asphalt or asphalt mixture with high accuracy should be further constructed; according to the actual working conditions, more emphasis should be placed on the analysis of the damage evolution process of asphalt mixture and asphalt pavement under the coupling effects of salt, temperature, load, ultraviolet, water and other fields.
