A comparison of the effectiveness of QCPR and conventional CPR training in final-year medical students at a South African university

•High-quality CPR is essential to save lives, therefore, CPR training is an essential skill to master in the training of all healthcare practitioners.•CPR training on conventional manikins is as effective as on high technology manikins.•Basic life support skills are gained as efficiently through personal instruction sessions as through computer- or video-guided education systems.•QCPR manikins can connect via Bluetooth with smartphones, tablets or desktop computers even in low resource environments, most healthcare practitioners will have a device that will be able to connect to the electronic manikin.
