Prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in patients with schizophrenia in Morocco

•People with severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, are likely to be overrepresented in high-risk categories for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).•This study does not report higher rates of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV seroprevalence compared with the general population, except for syphilis.•These results do not preclude from considering people with schizophrenia as risk subjects.•Protection and control measures should be set up including systematic screening for such infections in high-risk patients.
