摘要

•Mass mortality event of P. nobilis was investigated in the Gulf of Taranto (Ionian Sea, Italy)•A cytological description of Haplosporidium pinnae was first reported.•M. ulcerans-M. marinum complex was detected by PCR but tissue alterations were not found.•We further discussed about the current epidemic situation in the Adriatic sea.
