Construction and Biocompatibility Evaluation of Fibroin/Sericin-Based Scaffolds br

Because tissue responses to implants determine thesuccess or failure of tissue engineering products,fibroin/sericin-based scaffolds including bionic silk scaffolds, native silkfibers,fibroinfibers, and regeneratedfibroin have been fabricated, andtheir biocompatibility was investigated. Fibroin/sericin-basedscaffolds were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Bionic silk scaffolds werebeneficial to silkfiber formation through self-assembly. Histo-logical and immunofluorescent staining analysis demonstrated thatbionic silk scaffolds did not show significant inflammatoryresponses. Immunization analysis showed that solublefibroin and sericin did not show obvious immunogenicity. This worksupplied an effective approach to designfibroin/sericin-based scaffolds for tissue engineering and drug delivery
