Liquid Level Control of Nonlinear Process Using Big Bang–Big Crunch Optimization-Based Controller

This paper focuses on the development of optimization methods, that is, Big Bang-Big Crunch optimization (BB-BC) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), for the control of liquid level in a conical tank. The level of the liquid in the conical tank is maintained at the desired level by using a PI controller. Different tuning techniques such as Ziegler Nichols (ZN) method, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique and Big Bang Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization have been used to tune the PI parameter values (Kp, Ki). The performance indices and time-domain specifications have been compared. Minimization of Integral Square Error (ISE) is taken as the objective function.
