Abstract
In the current work, the synthesis and electrochemical characterization of silicon/acetylene black–carbon (Si/AB-c) composite has been carried out. Si/AB-c has been synthesized via the combination of sol–gel and the magnesiothermic reduction technique followed by testing as an electrode material in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The first discharge and charge capacities for Si/AB-c are impressive and found out to be 2248 and 1914 mAhg−1, respectively. The Si/AB-c composite electrode efficiently accommodates the huge volume expansion encountered during lithiation. Besides, acetylene black enhances electrical conductivity of the electrode material. The versatility to synthesis and design this electrode architecture is quite robust, cost-effective, and reproducible for the large-scale applications in LIBs and many more.
