•Vorinostat complementing photothermal therapy (PTT) potentiate oncotherapy.•A lysosomal activable nano-complex is fabricated to release drugs spontaneously.•The nano-complex significantly inhibits tumor growth, thermotolerance and metastasis.•Latent mechanism of Vorinostat augmenting PTT has been revealed.•Black phosphorus quantum dots probably down-regulate HSP70 in photothermal therapy.
