Abstract
Combustion of mixtures of initial powder reagents in the preparation of ceramic nitride-carbide powder composition AlN-SiC by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) using sodium azide as a nitriding reagent was theoretically and experimentally investigated. Thermodynamic calculations of adiabatic temperature and composition of combustion products are performed. The results of experimental research of parameters and products of combustion are presented. A model of the chemical stage of the SHS process is proposed. An explanation is given for the discrepancy between the results of thermodynamic analysis and experimental research.
