Abstract
This symposium comprises four papers which expand our knowledge of the impacts of leadership on positive behaviors, emotions, and resilience for public servants, and public service delivery more generally. The four papers contain diverse methods to explore issues of concerning leadership, positive behaviors, and the work conditions of the public servants both quantitatively and qualitatively. Furthermore, the symposium complements Anglo- and Western- centric views of public leadership, organizational development, and human resource management, with empirical analysis inclusive of transitional and developing economies, thereby responding to the call from Kaufman (2011). Finally, we contribute to the public and general management literature by extending our knowledge of work design configurations that enhance the capacities and proactive behaviors of public servants in the complex organizational environment that they operate within. We expect this symposium to be effectively exploratory and empirical as per the AOM 2020 call for papers, broadening the literature on management and organizational studies by identifying and incorporating practices and policies that stimulate and nurture positive and healthy workplaces.
