In the last few weeks, we saw most of the typical barriers to innovation fading in order to sustain international health systems fighting against Covid-19, by filling the gap of their capacity and sustaining the quality of care and assistance delivered Among the innovations apparently accelerated by the pandemic, AI has translated into several applications, for prevention, diagnosis, care, pharmaceutical research and epidemiology The article describes the objectives pursued by using AI in each of these areas, with some interesting international examples It finally proposes some reflections about the sustainability of these innovations and the implications for the Italian NHS Copyright © FrancoAngeli
