Treatment of Cancer Pain

Pain is one of the most common symptoms in cancer. Pain can be caused by cancer itself, or by antineoplastic therapies (for example chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy). Management of cancer pain should consider causal treatment, as reduction of tumor mass will alleviate pain. Non-opioids, opioids and coanalgesics can be used alone or in combination for pain relief. Non-pharmacological interventions may be directed against specific symptoms, such as lymphatic drainage for edema. It can also have more general effects, such as physical training improving fatigue and raising quality of life.
